Junior Komolafe also known as Komo
is a multi-talented and diverse performer. Born in Nigeria and raised in North
London, he is a singer, songwriter, rapper and performer; his nickname Komo
refers to a figure of admiration in his life, his Father. It is an adaptation
of his surname, Komolafe that means to teach beauty, passion and in Komo’s
words swag.
Komo began his musical career early, aged of 8
years old. Similar to many other great musicians he started out in his local
church where he quickly identified and grew a passion for entertainment. Whilst
performing in the church choir, as a youth Komo advanced his talents by singing
soprano and tenor, playing the drums, djembe and the conga. He sought to
perform at every opportunity and soon began to develop a strong supporter base.
Performances at venues such as Hackney Empire and major club events quickly
became regularity for Komo, who revelled at every opportunity to entertain
guests. Being a strong vocalist and fantastic instrumentalist has enabled him
to produce a unique sound across various genres; finding
inspiration from legendary old school Nigerian artists such as King Sunny Adé,
Lágbájá and FelaAnikulapoKuti.
